To start off, my name is Carl L. Galey and following is my resume...
On the following pages of my site I would like to acquaint you with a few of my many interests in the field of art and literature. I have been involved in art for my entire life. I started out in the Navy doing caricatures of my shipmates. I also drew a few cartoons for the ships newspaper. This, incidentally, was during the Korean War, so you have some idea of how old I am. I probably ought use a more recent picture, but I'm afraid the wrinkles wouldn't go through my printer.
After my hitch in the Navy, (three tours of duty to Korea aboard aircraft carriers as a radar operator), I returned to civilian life in Mattoon, Illinois. That is where I reside today. Shortly after my return to civilian life I secured a job as a city firefighter. I stayed with the fire department for 28 years, and retired in 1985 with the rank of Captain. My work schedule on the fire dept. ,(24 hours on duty, and 48 hours off duty) gave me the opportunity to try out many sideline avocations. Which I did frequently! Some of my side jobs were...pinstriper of motorcycles and cars, and muralist on vans. I guess my most satisfying sideline trip though, was the one into songwriting and operating a sound studio. For about 15 years, my son and I operated 'Applause Recording Studio'. We paid the rent by composing, producing and selling radio jingles...but our spare time was spent chasing the dream of being the producers of 'Song of the Year' in the field of Country Music. Although we never quite reached this goal, we did manage to have a few songs contracted to Nashville labels.Well, after operating the studio for many years, and never hitting the big time, my son decided to go out on the road with his band. This put quite a crimp in my operation of the studio, since he was my chief musician, composer, and engineer...I was forced to close up the studio and return to just writing as my ticket to that fifteen minutes of fame. To make a long story short, my son married a girl from Alabama and decided to become a southerner. He has been one now for about twenty years. He has done pretty good for himself down there though...(type in the name, 'Jeff Galey', on Google and see what comes up). He's made quite a name for himself down around Birmingham.
Now, to get back to the site. I have tried to make the site as interesting as possible, so you will keep looking at the next page. I have some samples of my artwork, both painting and sculpture and a couple of pages of the different celebrities that I have had the good fortune to meet. This has been due to the fact that I was a member of the Country Music Association for many years and was fortunate enough to attend about a dozen of the Television Awards shows . Some of the stars pictured are probably unfamiliar to the younger people viewing the site since these were during the 1980's and 90's. Quite a few of them have checked into that big studio in the sky. But anyway, I hope you enjoy this portion of the site. The other two or three pages are devoted to my novel, 'THE DOGS OF KALOON', and to it's sequel, 'RETURN TO KALOON'.
Well, I hope you find everything interesting, and will come back once in awhile. I'll try to add something new from time to time.
See ya later... Carl L. Galey
